Imphal: A powerful bomb exploded in the heart of this capital city damaging a building and few vehicles on Friday morning.
Police said the bomb exploded at Major Khul near the City Police station. However, none was injured.
The intensity of the blast was such that it could be heard all over the main market area.
The area is considered one of the safest places as it is near the SBI main office where CRPF personnel are on duty round-the- clock.
The City Police station is just about 200 metres away.
Police and security personnel rushed in to take stock of the situation. Police suspect that the bomb might have been planted earlier. Had the blast occurred during peak office hours there could have been many casualties.
Manipur Police personnel conducted search in the area and no one was allowed near the vicinity of the site. (UNI)
