SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Forum of Former MLAs has expressed concern over the current impasse arising out of the issue of influx stating that the same has adversely affected every section of the society.

The former legislators also suggested that a solution should be arrived at through dialogue with all interested parties and groups.

Expressing the Forum’s opinion, its president, SD Khongwir, said, “In a democracy, we do not surrender ourselves to one prevailing ideology, however attractive and persuasive, but we keep debating.”

According to the former legislators, the need of the hour is for the government and the agitating groups demanding for implementation of ILP in the State to engage in talks and dialogue.

“Such a conference would provide a platform for both sides to discuss all the legal instruments available as well as new ones in the offing, to hammer out a solution on the vexed problem of influx,” Khongwir said.
