Google rolls out ‘parental control’ feature for Chrome
London: Google has reportedly introduced parental control to its Chrome web browser allowing parents to monitor and control the browsing behaviour of their children.
The feature called ‘supervised users’, lets ‘managers’ or parents to set up profiles of the people they want to monitor.
According to the BBC, the feature is available on Windows, Mac and Linux OS lets managers view the supervised users’ browsing history, block specific sites, and approve access requests.
Google said that the default setting is to allow a newly created supervised user to view all websites and managers have to specify what sites they want to block.
The feature automatically activates SafeSearch for supervised users, to refrain adult content from showing up in the web searches.
The report said that the move comes amidst growing concerns over inappropriate content children can be exposed to online including graphic violence for which Facebook has been the recent to receive the flak. (ANI)
Now, book and track taxis in Dubai with new smartphone app!
Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reportedly launched a smartphone app that allows users to book as well as track taxis at literally ‘the wave of a hand’.
The free-to-download Smart Taxi app includes a unique ‘shake-a-taxi’ concept allowing users to fetch a cab by merely shaking their cellphone.
CEO of Licensing Agency, Ahmad Hashem Bahrozyan said that passengers can expect to do everything from ‘shaking’ down a taxi to checking flights on board and paying by credit or NoL cards, Gulf News reports.
According to the report, customers would require to enter their contact number and the app will automatically look for available taxis nearest to them and once the taxi is identified, the driver will confirm the pick-up and notify the customer in real time.
Bahrozyan said that the customer will get all the details about the taxi, including the name and picture of the taxi driver by the time it reaches him.
He further explained that every taxi on the road will now have a message that clearly states if it is vacant, hired or booked, according to which it will show a green, red or orange light.
Bahrozyan said that passengers will also be able to rate the drivers’ performance through the app when they disembark, the report added. (ANI)
World’s scariest airport runways revealed!
Sydney: From sea ice runways to dropping down from a mountain cliff to do the take off, a travel deal website has revealed world’s top ten scariest runways.
According to Airfarewatchdog.com, Antartica’s Sea Ice Runway leads the scary list with the runway being unpaved and prone to cracks.
A few years ago, this runway melted leading to flight cancellations and pilots have been warned to avoid landing ‘too heavily’ and try not to sink more than 25 centimetres into the ice, news.com.au reports.
Gibraltar Airport comes close second for being beside a major highway that leads into Spain followed by Portugal’s Madeira Airport which has such a short runway, that it forces planes to take a last-minute sharp turn over the high mountains.
Pouring rain, wind and a short runway close to mountains make Ketchikan International Airport a wild ride as the fourth scariest runway.
The fifth scariest runway is of Tibet’s Qamdo Bamda Airport, which is located more than 4200 meters above the sea level.
Greenland’s Narsarauq Airport, makes the ride thrilling with 90-degree turns through a fjord with the risk of icebergs nearby.
For Saba Island’s Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport runway, only experienced pilots can dare to fly with high winds and surrounding mountains.
Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport dons the eighth position for being so terrifying that it was closed in 1998, as the planes were forced to fly very low over Hong Kong in order to reach the landing strip and take a sharp turn to end up on the runway.
Poor weather, high approach and high surrounding terrain make Eagle County Regional Airport Vail a challenging runway ride.
Matekane Air Strip in Lesotho is located at the end of a mountainside gully, and instead of taking off in the air like normal flights, planes do the daredevil drop down the side of a cliff until they start flying.
The summarized top ten scariest airport runways list includes:
