SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the State Government to file a show cause within four weeks in relation to the dissolution of the Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU) by the Principal of the College on the advice of West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi.

Taking cognizance of writ petition filed by the secretary of the TGCSU, Balkarin Ch Marak, challenging the dissolution of the students’ union by the college authority on the advice of the Deputy Commissioner, the High Court asked the government to cite reasons for its inability to set aside the order of dissolution of the said union.

The Court headed by Chief Justice PC Pant has given four weeks to the Government to file the counter affidavit in this matter.

Mentionably, the State Government had, last month, directed the Tura Government College authorities to dissolve the current body of the TGCSU and keep in abeyance any fresh election until further orders from the Education department.
