SHILLONG: The ongoing agitations called by the different NGOs of the State have caused great inconvenience to the student community especially during a time when institutions are conducting their promotion examinations and selection tests.

It may be mentioned that at this juncture, the District School Education Officers are conducting the selection test for private candidates and the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will also be re-introducing the class IX internal examination where the board will be supplying the class IX question papers for all the subjects.

The on-going agitations will also affect the internal examinations to be conducted by the school scheduled to start from November 15 to 27, thereby disturbing the on-going preparation of the Class X students who will be appearing for the SSLC board examination next year, which is often considered the gateway to every students’ academic careers.

“To enable all concerned to conduct the examinations, a peaceful and congenial environment is required,” Executive Chairman of MBOSE EP Kharbhih said adding that disturbances of any kind would have a negative impact on the minds of the students.

In this connection, MBOSE have appealed to all the NGOs to keep in mind the interest of the students and their future and to maintain peace and harmony during the period when these examinations are being conducted.

Reacting to this, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said that the NGOs are considerate towards the cause of the students and stated that they will resort to activities which will not affect the student community.

“We don’t want to call any agitational activities which will adversely affect the students and we will not resort to measures which will affect them during the hours of their examinations,” Khyriem said however, reiterating that they will continue pressurizing the government through other methods.

Stating the NGOs’ stand on the issue as firm, the KSU leader said “if the government continues to remain adamant to their demands, they will be forced to resort to many drastic measures in the coming days.”
