Target: SP’s son

SHILLONG: An alert student of a city college on Monday foiled a bid to kidnap him by some unknown miscreants.

This alert student is none other than the son of MK Dkhar, SP, East Jaintia Hills district.

It is learnt that the four unidentified youths went up to Dkhar’s son Pynskhem Syiem, a student of St Edmunds College (Class XII -Arts) inside the college campus at around 8-30am and told him that his father had met with an accident so he (Pynskhem) had to accompany them.

However, the son of the police officer smelled something fishy about the whole thing and he pretended that he wanted to go to toilet and subsequently informed the college authorities about the unknown persons.

After waiting for sometime for Pynskhem, the miscreants disappeared from the scene. Soon after the incident, the college authorities lodged an FIR with Laitumkhrah police station.

East Khasi hills SP (city) Vivek Syiem told reporters that the police were already on the job to identify and arrest the youths.

According to him, police were yet to ascertain the reason behind the kidnapping bid.

Syiem said colleges and schools should install CCTV cameras for the safety of their students.
