SHILLONG: After HSPDP, KHNAM has official decided to support the candidature of People’s Candidate Forum’s Rev PBM Basaiawmoit from Shillong parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha election due in 2014.
“We are not going to field any candidate,” KHNAM general secretary B Wahlang said.
He also said that the party hoped that Rev Basaiawmoit, if he is elected, would take up issues concerning the indigenous people of the State including ILP in Parliament.
Earlier, the PCF had appealed to all the political parties of the state including Congress not to field any candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Shillong seat and instead extend support to Rev Basaiawmoit.
It may be mentioned here that Rev Basaiawmoit had unsuccessfully contested the 2009 Lok Sabha election as a HSPDP candidate. He emerged third securing 97613 votes.
Congress candidate Vincent H Pala (232270) had defeated John F Kharshiing of UDP (124402) by 107868 votes in that election.
