All women post office inaugurated at NEHU

SHILLONG: An all-women Delivery Post Office at NEHU Campus, Shillong, which is the first-of-its-kind in the North East, was on Tuesday dedicated to the public.

S Sarkar, member of the Postal Services Board, New Delhi, dedicated the all-women Post Office to the public.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Sarkar emphasized that the Department of Posts, while modernizing its services, is also ensuring participation of all sections of the society in the development of the Postal department.

Additional Chief Secretary PBO Warjri, acting NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. P Shukla, noted academician and musician Dr. Helen Giri and other dignitaries attended the function.

PK Swain, Post Master General, North East Circle, spoke on the importance of the matrilineal nature of society in Meghalaya and the importance accorded by the Department of Posts to its women employees. Prof. Shukla congratulated the women staff of NEHU Delivery Sub Post Office for their services rendered to the public. Warjri appreciated the Department of Posts for its role in empowerment of women.

Meanwhile, the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) was also inaugurated on Tuesday. The NEHU Post Office is the first to have the PRS in order to facilitate the students and faculties of the University.
