Shillong Commerce College wins debate competition

SHILLONG: Shillong Commerce College emerged as the champion team while St. Edmund’s College was runner-up in the inter-college Debate competition on the motion ‘Radiation from mobile towers causes environmental hazards’, organised by Sankardev College, Shillong on Saturday.

Six colleges – Synod college, Lady Keane College, Shillong Commerce College, St. Edmund’s College, St.Anthony’s College and Sankardev College – participated in the competition.

The debaters on the occasion brought out their stock of intelligence as they argued for and against the motion. But the spirit of the debate hinged on the responsibility and accountability on the use of technology by all stake holders.

Another interesting part of the debate was the kind of wit and skills displayed by the students besides bringing out many points which is of vital interest for the audience.

The winning team was represented by Macdonald Lyngdoh and Tangu Chettri while the runner-up team was represented by Surojit Das and Prantoo Saikia.

Prantoo Saikia was adjudged the best speaker while Tangu Chettri was declared as the most humourous speaker.

The prizes and certificates of participation were distributed by Principal of Sankardev College, Ms. D Dkhar.
