SHILLONG: Residents of Mawlynrei area have expressed disappointment over the discontinuation of the Shillong Public Transport Services (SPTS) in their area for the past one month, which has caused great inconvenience to the public.

The local residents have complained that in the past the SPTS buses would ply from Mawlynrei to various destinations via Lapalang, but the buses have stopped coming to this area due to reasons best known to the concerned authorities.

B Kharpor, a resident of Mawlynrei, complained that previously these buses would come twice a day – once in the morning and again in the afternoon hours – thereby easing the problems of the people especially those from poor families.

“These buses have now stopped coming though they are Mawlynrei-bound buses which are meant to ply to and from Mawlynrei as per the electronic display on the bus,” Kharpor said, adding that whenever confronted, the bus drivers would pay a deaf ear to their pleas.
