Chapvang Kut celebrated among Kuki community

SHILLONG: The kuki community in Shillong celebrated the Chapvang Kut, a post harvest festival. Chapvang Kut is one of the major festivals of the kuki chin ethnic group who are chiefly a cultivating tribes.
The festival marks the end of harvest season, when all works related to cultivation come to an end, adding people from all walk of life in the community dressed in their traditional attires gather together for a time of merry making and in anticipation of bounty harvest which at the year end.
Fashion shows, cultural dances and special number from various artists were the main attraction during the festival and the Kut festival in the course of time had a tradition of selecting Miss Kut, and this year, Nengneiboi Sontak was crowned Miss Chavang Kut Shillong 2013.
