10-day-old girl becomes youngest PAN card holder

Rajkot: Aahna Apurva Modi, a ten-day-old baby has become one of the youngest Permanent Account Number (PAN) card holders in the country. Talking to UNI, baby Aahna’s uncle, industrialist Upen Modi told this reporter that Aahna was born on October 21, in a private hospital here and family members wanted to register baby girl’s name among the youngest PAN card holders in the country. ‘After the delivery of the baby girl, the religious formality of naming her was completed within three days, and baby Aahna’s parents applied for the PAN Card which she obtained ten days after her birth,’ Modi said. She is now one of the youngest PAN card holders in the country. The previous child that had the distinction of being the youngest baby girl to obtain a PAN card was a 22-day-old baby who secured it in 2010, Modi claimed. ‘We are very happy that we could obtain the PAN card for our baby at such a young age,’ Modi said.  (PTI)

Woman SI allegedly molested by senior police official

Kolkata: A woman sub-inspector of police has alleged that was molested by the officer-in-charge of Ballygunge police station in the metropolis here. The woman SI posted at the Ballygunge police station filed a complaint with the senior authorities, accusing the officer-in-charge, Ujjal Mukherjee, of making sexual advances and molesting her on Thursday night after calling her to his room, police sources said. The woman SI filed a complaint with the deputy commissioner’s office following which a high level inquiry under the supervision of a DC was instituted. Mukherjee went on leave on Friday, the sources said. This is the second such incident in the last one month after a woman police official was allegedly molested by a colleague. (PTI)
Two more children die due to encephalitis; toll rises to 497
Gorakhpur (UP): With two more children succumbing to Encephalitis in the past 24 hours, the death toll in eastern Uttar Pradesh due to the disease has risen to 497. While one of the child belonged to Basti district, the other was from neighbouring state of Bihar, according to sources at BRD Medical College Hospital here. A total of 497 children have died due to the disease since January 2013, while a total of 2,382, including 24 new admissions, in last 24 hours have been admitted at the BRDMCH and other government hospitals, they said. At present 234 patients are being treated at BRDMCH, said the sources. (PTI)

Scores of employees suspended in Kashmir

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has suspended scores of government employees, including a headmaster, for unauthorised absence from duty in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. An official spokesman said here today that to ensure punctuality in Government offices across the district, district administration Anantnag has intensified its checking of government offices on the instructions of District Development Commissioner Anantnag on Friday. He said a squad led by the tehsildar Pahalgam checked various offices and found number of employees absent in Municipal Committee Pahalgam and Government Hospital Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) Pahalgam, Headmaster, two teachers and one master of Government High School Laripora. He said all these absent employees were placed under suspension with immediate effect. (UNI)Two smugglers arrested with cannabis in Jammu
Jammu: Two narcotic smugglers were arrested and cannabis was recovered from their possession in Jammu city, police said on Saturday. During a checking at Mandir Masjid Point near Dogra Chowk in the city, police apprehended two persons identified as Farooq Ahmed and Saleem Khan last night, police officials said, adding some cannabis was also recovered from their possession. A case has been registered in this connection and investigation is going on, they said. (PTI)

Woman jumps into Chenab

Jammu: A married woman jumped into the Chenab river in Doda district here today and is yet to be traced, police said. Shanti Devi, wife of one Gulan Chand of Khadoot village here, jumped into the river, they said. Police and locals launched a search operation, but no whereabouts were found of her in the river, he said, adding that the reason behind her taking the step is not known. A case has been registered in this regard, police said. (PTI)
