Assam district bandh called

Haflong: A 24-hour Dima Hasao (North Cachar Hills) district bandh has been called from 0500 hours Monday.

The bandh has been called by the Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) demanding immediate bifurcation of N C Hills district into two and in protest against the alleged negligence of Group of Ministers towards the IPF demand.

The bandh will start will from 0500 hours on November four. Medical, water supply, electricity have however been exempted from the purview of the bandh.

One person killed in accident

One person died on the spot when a truck hit him today, police said.

The person, identified as Dipu Mahanta, was going in his cycle when the truck hit him from behind killing him instantly.

Following this incident, angry locals burnt the truck.

The police later resorted to mild lathicharge to control the irate mob.

Senior Police officials, including DIG Eastern Range Satyen Gogoi and Jorhat DC Solanki Vishanl Vasant, rushed to the spot. (Agencies)
