Ban on mining activity

SHILLONG: The West Khasi Hills district administration has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting mining activity or removal of sand from river beds by any person, company, authority without obtaining environmental clearance from MoEF/SEIAA and license from the competent authority.
This order has been enforced in compliance with the order received from the National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench in New Delhi in order to safeguard the environment from degradation.
This order shall take immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
