SHILLONG: The peon of Additional Secretariat, Peterson Mawrie, who was arrested for stealing a computer from the chamber of Parliamentary Secretary Rophul S Marak, was suspended from service. The accused is still in police custody.

The Principal Secretary, Secretariat Administration Department P Naik said on Tuesday that the camera put up at the Access Control System in the Additional Secretariat helped in identifying the culprit.

According to Naik, the accused carried the computer parts in the big cone shaped basket which is used for depositing waste at the Secretariat.

The footage of the camera showed the peon, who entered the Secretariat in between 7.30am and 8 am on October 29, carrying the basket containing computer and coming out of the Secretariat a while later . Since the basket was also missing from the Secretariat, this gave rise to the suspicion that it was used to carry the computer.

After getting clues, the police on Saturday last recovered a CPU, keyboard and a mouse from the house of the peon at Laitkor
