SHILLONG: Three persons including two employees of NEEPCO attempted to rape a minor girl (10) at Thieddieng village under Mawsynram PS in East Khasi Hills on Sunday last.

According to police, one Ram Singh and two other NEEPCO employees, whose names are still unknown, escaped from the village soon after the incident which took place in the evening.

The real identity of Ram Singh is yet to be confirmed. Police sources said that it is still not known whether Singh is also an employee of NEEPCO.

The incident occurred when the 10-year-old girl was on her way to her sister’s house nearby. Taking advantage of the darkness, the three persons allegedly grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. The girl’s scream, however, alerted the villagers who rushed to the spot and rescued her.
