Fire in train coaches, one dead

Guwahati:  A person was burnt to death in a fire that gutted one Sleeper Class coach and partially damaged another in the New Guwahati yard of Northeast Frontier Railway’s(NFR) Lumding Division Tuesday night.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an NFR release said.
A partially burnt body of a male, whose identity has not been established yet, was found in the toilet of the completely damaged coach.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) of the state government and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are investigating into the matter.
The empty rake of the 12506 Up North East Express, which had arrived at Guwahati last evening, was moved to the New Guwahati yard and stabled there at about 2230 hours.
At about 0120 hours, one of the on-duty supervisors observed fire in one of the Sleeper Class coaches of this rake and the Fire Brigade was immediately informed. It reached the spot within 20 minutes.
The fire was finally extinguished at about 0300 hours when the body was found lying partially inside one of the toilets of the burnt coach. (UNI)
