SHILLONG: Malki’s six-game winning streak came to an end on Friday after Langsning beat them 3-0 in a Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium, Polo.
The victory, Langsning’s third in a row, propelled them to third place in the standings ahead of Royal Wahingdoh FC and Nangkiew Irat, who each have 16 points.
Malki, resting key players, could not keep up with the invigorated Langsning.
The eventual winners broke through Malki’s defence on a number of occasions and the breakthrough came in the 29th minute through Jagjit Singh as they walked into halftime with a one goal lead.
Jagjit scored via a free kick that curled away from the ball but then swung in the other direction, making it difficult for the Malki goalkeeper.
The second half proved even more fruitful after Nabachandra Singh doubled the lead in the 58th minute.
The highlight of the match however, was Moirangmayun Singh’s beautiful header in the 84th mintue past keeper Maitshaphrang Kharumnuid following a well-directed cross from the left flank.
Malki made several mistakes in the second half, which cost them possession at important moments.
On Saturday, Royal Wahingdoh and Nangkiew Irat will face each other at 10:45am, while Pohkseh SCC and Mawlai SC play at 2:45pm.
Meanwhile, in the Third Division Super League, Mawkhar defeated Lawsohtun 3-1 on Friday.
