SHILLONG: Meghalaya Editor’s and Publisher’s Association (MEPA) on Saturday organized a workshop for journalists and media persons of Jaintia Hills region at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Jowai.

The Workshop was sponsored by District Administration of West Jaintia Hills, Jowai.

Speaking at the inaugural as the chief guest, EAC West Jaintia Hills, DD Syngai, exhorted upon the media persons present to report facts accurately.

Observing that what media writes has a huge impact on society, she described media as the primary instrument in society’s transformation and urged upon everyone present to take great care and responsibility while reporting facts and events.

She also opined that media is a ‘very powerful’ and a crusader in social change today.

Further, she remarked that media can never be silent, which is its greatest virtue, but observed that it is also its flaw.

Additionally, she appreciated the camaraderie that is shared by local journalists, which is unlike anything followed in other parts of the country where there is cut-throat competition in this profession. The chairman of the Workshop was chaired by MEPA President, RM Shabong, and vote of thanks was delivered by MEPA General Secretary, George Lyngdoh. The Workshop Coordinator was MEPA member CH Passah.
