2 minors critically hurt in house fire
Kohima: Two children sustained serious burn injuries when their house was completely gutted in an inferno in the early hours of Sunday in Leinak Colony, Longleng town, the district headquarters.
According to sources on Monday, the two minor children from Yongphang village, sustained 50 per cent burn injuries while they were sleeping. One of the injured was stated to be in a serious condition and has been admitted at District Hospital Longleng.
The family members said the fire was caused by a candle left unattended that was fixed on the wooden table, adding not a single household property could be saved from the inferno.
However, timely intervention of fire fighters from 31 Assam Rifles B. Company averted the fire from spreading to adjacent places. It took three hours for the fire fighters to bring the fire under control.
Meanwhile, citizens of Longleng have expressed their resentment that, Longleng in spite of becoming a fully fledged district headquarter in 2004 was yet to set up a fire Department in the district. (UNI)
Nagaland edu website launched
Kohima: Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Technical Education, IT&C, Science and Technology and Taxes, Tovihoto Ayemi has launched an education website – NagaEducation.com- at his residence at Dimapur on Sunday.
According to sources launching the website Tovihoto congratulated the website developers Dr. Yan Murry, Renbemo and Marius Kithan, stressed on the need for such platform which would make it easy for students to find education related information.
“Years back students had to travel many hours just to get an admission form. This website can make life easier for students”, Tovihoto added. The website provides information on educational institutions in Nagaland and education related news and events.
The website has an education group discussion forum. There are sections for downloading admission forms and announcement of results. The website also features interviews and education related columns.
The website is an initiative of Dimapur based organization The Society for Education, Empowerment and Development (SEED). (UNI)
Nagaland Chamber Choir
celebrates decade
Kohima: The Nagaland Chamber Choir has celebrated ten years of togetherness and accomplishment as one of the most professional choral outfits of the state in a fascinated packed house at IMC Hall at Dimapur as it performed its Tenth Year Anniversary Concert on Sunday evening.
According to sources, people from all walks of life gathered to witness melodious and graceful blend of Naga and Western influence in the form of choir, duet, solo and trio.
Their presentation include ‘how great thou art’, ‘sing a song of six pence’, ‘toki gong’ an Indonesian song. Proceeds of the ticket sale for the concert will go the paying the school fees of under privileged children and orphans.
The Nagaland Chamber Choir – comprising of 16 female and 14 male artists was formed in August 2003 by a group of dedicated Nagas, spearheaded by Kughaho Chishi.
Its primary vision is to provide a platform for musicians where their talents are sustained and shared with all churches, tribes, and peoples.
It also aims to promote and bring a high level of professionalism to church music in Nagaland. (UNI)
Nagaland observes National Legal Services Day
Kohima: The National Legal Services Day was observed by the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA), starting with a function in the Office of the District and Sessions Judge and Secretary, DDLSA.
A press release on Monday said that advocates and para-legal volunteers of the DDLSA thereafter carried out a legal awareness programme in Dimapur on Sunday as part of the National Legal Services day.
The public was informed of the right to avail free services from the frontal office, DDLSA.
Literature pertaining to the services offered by the DDLSA was also distributed to the people at various locations like the City Tower, Bata Police Point, Plaza junction and the SP Office junction.
The release said the basic idea was to create awareness of basic rights and programmes carried out under the aegis of the legal services authority.
The citizens were sensitized on free legal aid, Lok Adalats and certain basic laws. (UNI)
