Courses offered turn obsolete
SHILLONG: Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has asserted that the enrolment in the state ITIs was pitiable.
Speaking to media persons here recently, the Labour Minister said that the Deputy Commissioners must conduct awareness programmes in their respective districts for enrolling youths in the ITIs.
While admitting that the ITI’s in the State were running exhausted courses which hold no water in modern world, she said that the labour department will now start new courses which suits the modern world.
According to Lyngdoh, the ten State Government and one missionary ITI in the State would soon begin imparting seven new courses to equip youths of the State with the skill training in various fields.
Lyngdoh said that the new courses which would be started in the ITIs from August next year include Floriculture, Mason (Building construction), Land Scapping, Painter, embroidery needle work, interior designing, multi media animation, office assistant cum computer operators.
She stated that the qualification required for most of the new courses would be Class X passed and courses which hold no significance would be left out.
She even took a dig at the poor performance of the employment offices in the State while maintaining that there is a need for continuous reviewing and monitoring the performance of the employment offices in the State.
Reacting to a query as why Government cannot invite private players to open up call centres in the State, Lyngdoh said that the State needs to package itself as a peaceful State first, following which more IT firms would like to venture in the State.
