Children’s Day celebrated across city

SHILLONG: On the occasion of the 124th Birth Anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, who was fondly called Chacha Nehru by the children, SSG organized a two-day special programme for the under-privileged children thereby providing them a platform to enjoy to the fullest as most of these children are debarred of their precious childhood because they have to work to support themselves and their families.

On November 13, cultural programmes and child-friendly games were organized followed by fun-filled activities and important child-right based sessions for these children.

A total of 200 children from East Khasi hills and Ri-Bhoi District participated in the programme held at Don Bosco Youth Centre.

On the second day on Thursday, a trip to Lady Hydary Park was organized where the elderly people from the Mercy Home- Home for the aged were invited so as to provide them a platform to enjoy together with the children thereby making an effort to lessen their crave for their own dear ones at least for a day.

In another event, BSF School Shillong celebrated ‘Children’s Day’ in BSF Headquarters, Umpling on Thursday with enthusiasm. Literary activities in the form of essay writing competition followed by some fun games organized for the children.

Small children immensely enjoyed blind race, biscuit race, spoon race, cock fight, sack race and mathematics race.

They day was celebrated with a cultural programme presented by the children. The School Chairman, Anil Kumar, IPS , Inspector General BSF Meghalaya frontier gave away the prizes to the children who won in different events.
