Lapang rules out leadership change
SHILLONG: MPCC president DD Lapang on Thursday ruled out the removal of KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N Syiem stating that there is no dissension among the party MDCs on the latter’s leadership.
While asking the party MDCs to concentrate on the upcoming district council elections, Lapang also said that with two months to go for the polls, replacing the KHADC CEM is out of question.
“None of the MDCs raised the issue of changing the CEM. All the MDCs reposed faith on the leadership of incumbent CEM Pynshngain N Syiem,” Lapang told newsmen after the KHADC Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meeting at his residence here on Thursday.
All the 15 Congress MDCs attended the crucial CPP meeting.
When asked about the petition of the nine MDCs which was submitted to District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh demanding the removal of Syiem, he said that no such petition was submitted.
The MPCC president, however, admitted that there are differences among the party MDCs.
“It is a normal thing in a big family like the Congress party. As disciplined members of the party, none of them (party members) would want to burn down their house,” Lapang said.
While claiming that the party has been able to resolve the lapses and the loopholes amicably, the MPCC president said that all the MDCs have vowed to work hard to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming election.
Lapang also informed that a five member CPP Coordination Committee to be headed by the CEM has been constituted to look into the various grievances of the members which may crop up in the near future. The other members of the committee are KHADC chairman Fabian Lyngdoh, Manstudy Nongrem, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh. Deputy Chairman, Kennedy Khyriem would be secretary of the committee.
“This committee would ensure that there should be a dialogue on any pertinent issue raised by any MDC. The committee is also authorized to take action against any MDC who misbehaves,” the MPCC president said.
Lapang also asserted that the party would improve its performance in the upcoming election.
