SHILLONG: In yet another act of rape, the driver of a local taxi (ML-05K-3896) identified as Pynshngainlang Marbaniang attempted to rape a woman here on Wednesday evening.
Police said that the incident happened at 6:30 pm when the driver attempted to rape a woman in the taxi on the way between Smit and Ur Masi U Joh.
This is not the first case of attempted rape in a local taxi as earlier, a local taxi driver allegedly kidnapped his passenger, a 16-year-old minor girl, when she boarded his taxi (ML-05H-0926) from Jingkieng to Police Bazaar, and took her to Shillong Peak and sexually assaulted her.
The second instance of rape in a local taxi has aggravated the predicament of female commuters travelling in local taxis.
