New Delhi: A former dean of Delhi University’s law faculty has filed a complaint against a judge for sexually harassing a woman intern, police said Friday.
“S.N. Singh filed the complaint at Delhi’s Tilak Marg police station Thursday evening accusing a judge, whose name cannot be revealed, for sexually harassing a woman intern,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police S.B.S. Tyagi.
“We have received the complaint but are yet to register a case. We are trying to contact the victim. Further action will be taken if the victim comes forward to register the case,” said Tyagi.
S.N. Singh, in his complaint, said the victim, currently a lawyer working with a non-governmental organisation, was sexually assaulted by the judge during her law internship in Delhi.
The complainant also says the same person sexually harassed three other girls.
The startling allegation of sexual harassment was first made against the retired judge by a woman intern on her blog Nov 6 in which she accused the judge of misbehaving with her in a hotel room last December.
The allegation was raised in the apex court before Chief Justice P. Sathasivam who constituted a three-judge committee to go into the charge levelled by the woman and observed that “in the cases of sexual harassment, we cannot take it lightly”.
S.N. Singh also questioned how can a committee, comprising judges from the same fraternity, probe the matter. (IANS)
