Apathy towards attack in city

SHILLONG: Despite the presence of police personnel at the nearby Rilbong beat house, miscreants carried out a daring attack on a shop keeper at Bishnupur during the busy hours on Saturday.

Moreover, it was surprising that during the incident there were no police personnel on duty at Bishnupur junction, which otherwise is patrolled at least by three security personnel every day.

There was also lack of pro active steps on the part of the public.

Though many people are witness to the incident, no one raised any hue and cry or made any attempt to chase the culprits.

Moreover, no one wants to give the description of the miscreants who came to the shop to attack the shop keeper.

A police official said that public can help police in containing the crime, but it was strange that there was no response from the public at Bishnupur when the crime took place.

The people did not even bother to inform the Rilbong beat house as the policemen at the beat house got the information only at 11:30 am, half an hour after the incident, from the police booth.

The official added that the police forces cannot be omnipresent as policemen have to look after different areas.

When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that their focus now is to arrest the culprits, and added: “we have got some leads”.
