One seriously injured in bomb explosion in Manipur

Imphal: One person was seriously injured when suspected militants hurled a powerful bomb at a house in Lilong area of Thoubal district ton Saturday, police sources said.

The bomb (improvised explosive device) was hurled at the house of Abdul Salam allegedly by suspected militants at around 10 AM at Lilong area, sources said, adding that a labourer identified as Ayah Uddin, who was working in the house of Salam was seriously injured in the blast.

The suspected militants, who came on a two-wheeler, escaped in broad day light towards Thoubal side after hurling the bomb, they said. The spot was about one km from Lilong police station.

Monetary demand could be reason behind the explosion as Salam is a businessman but no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far, sources said. Udin was in serious condition at a hospital here, they said.

Meanwhile, in another incident a powerful bomb (improvised explosive device) planted allegedly by militants exploded at the office of Tangkhul Katamnao (a social organisation) in interior Ukhrul district bordering Myanmar last night damaging some portion of the office but no casualty was reported, police said.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility. (PTI)
