NONGSTOIN: Four persons identified as Robert Riangshiang, Marsiar Puwein , Sio Puwein and Johnmilton Puwein assaulted the doctor in charge of Maweit PHC Dr. Gautam Singh on Saturday last.
The barbaric act was perpetrated at around 10.00 pm on Saturday when the doctor was having dinner at his quarter when the four barged in and assaulted him.
Hearing the commotion, the PHC staff rushed to the quarter. However, the miscreants had assaulted even the chowkidar of the PHC by then.
The miscreants fled the scene after the PHC staff called the villagers for help.
Meanwhile, with the help of the joint action committee, Maweit Area, the doctor filed an FIR at Nongstoin Police Station on Monday.
Mawshynrut legislator Witting Mawsor condemned the assault terming it as a barbaric act.
Maweit PHC is the lone health centre that caters thousands of villagers, Mawsor said while urging the police to bring the culprits to book.
