SHILLONG: The Basin Development Unit of East Garo Hills District under Meghalaya Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion Programme (MIBDLP) successfully conducted “Seeds on Wheels 2013” from November 9 till November 19.
Under the innovative initiative, three specially decorated vehicles and nine dedicated officers travelled from market to market and conducted seed festivals in all the major weekly markets of East Garo Hills District.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vijay Mantri said that the Seed Festival is a platform where a farmer receives seeds, farming implements and all the information relating to agriculture.
The program concluded on Tuesday successfully at Rongsak Market. As per the preliminary report, more than 9000 farmers got benefits from the programme. Agriculture department and Horticulture departments among others participated in all the seed festivals and distributed seeds and information.
