Demand for immediate disbursal of pending salaries

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Transport Corporation Workers’ Union has served a fifteen-day deadline to the State Government to release their salaries which has been pending for five months.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Union said that the staff would resort to agitation if the Government fails to release their pending salaries.
The Union also stated that non release of the salaries has affected all staff, especially those who draw less salary, as many of them have been compelled to stop sending their children to school while some others have lost their lives since they could not avail proper and timely treatment.
The Union claimed that the MTC management has not released their salary since July this year leading to immense hardships for the employees who are fighting hard to meet their day to day requirements.
The Union also lamented that no steps were taken to ensure timely distribution of salaries despite taking up the matter with the Corporation head and the State Transport Minister.
