SHILLONG: The UDP Mawlai Circle has decided to field Grevasis Kharmujai from Mawlai constituency in the upcoming district council elections in 2014.
The party’s Mawlai Circle announced the candidature of Kharmujai, who is the son of former Mawlai MDC Linus Shadap, during its general meeting held on November 18.
During the meeting, the party members decided to continue their support to the party’s legislator from Mawlai, Embhah Syiemlieh, who has been re-elected as the president of the circle.
Syiemlieh was, earlier, removed from the post of president of the UDP Mawlai Circle following a no confidence motion passed against him and in his place, Khrawbok Basaiawmoit, was elected the new president.
Expressing their confidence in Syiemlieh, the party members refused to recognize the ‘self-formed’ party under the leadership of Basaiawmoit.
“This party has no connection with the UDP Mawlai circle,” supporters of Syiemlieh claimed.
The newly-elected office bearers of the Mawlai UDP circle include Linus Shadap (senior vice president), Grevasis Kharmujai (general secretary), Khlainbor Palle and Mina Jana (vice presidents), Teibor Marwein (chief organiser) and Finian Nongkseh (treasurer), among others.
