Communal harmony need of the hour, says Governor

SHILLONG: At a time when the State is witnessing violence, Governor Dr KK Paul has urged people to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood transcending religious, linguistic and regional diversities.

Addressing the gathering during a music concert organized by the North Eastern Service, All India Radio Shillong in collaboration with the Arts & Culture Department on the occasion of Quami Ekta Week (National Integration Week) at the U Soso Tham auditorium on Thursday, Dr Paul said that societies that have shared bonds of unity have always enjoyed peace, stability, prosperity and permanence.

“Ours is a nation of unity in diversity and India stands as a perfect example of unity of cultures, religions, languages, regions, festivals, costumes, outlook and colour,” the Governor said, adding that the citizens of the country have been able to preserve this unity against all odds.

While appreciating the North Eastern Service, AIR and the Department of Arts & Culture, for bringing together different communities through a musical event which featured songs sung in different languages and dialects, he said that achieving communal harmony and national integration should be a dream for every Indian.

Artistes from Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and

Meghalaya participated in the event.

Director of Arts & Culture, Matsiewdor War Nongbri while addressing the gathering also said the National Integration Week should be an occasion for the people of the State to dedicate themselves again to communal harmony and development of the State
