SHILLONG: Even though the State Police had issued an advisory to the users of “Facebook” to be cautious from the criminals who befriend with female users of Facebook while claiming to be located in foreign land and later dupe them, a lady in the city has been duped in a very similar way.
According to a complaint lodged by one Irelyne Rumnong, on November 16 she received a phone call from her friend residing in the United Kingdom informing that he had sent a parcel for her.
On November 18 she received another call in which the caller asked her to deposit Rs. 24,500 in the SBI A/c of Toli Sumi of Dimapur.
Unaware of the ill motives of the caller, she deposited the amount but subsequently found that she had been cheated.
Police investigation is on.
