SHILLONG: The State Government has completed the land acquisition process for the Reid Chest Hospital (TB Hospital) at Umsawli.

Informing this here on Thursday, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said “We have entered into an agreement with the Dorbar Shnong of Mawpat for construction of the hospital at the proposed site”.

Hek informed that officials of his department recently conducted a joint inspection with members of the Dorbar Shnong at the proposed site.

“The Dorbar Shnong has put only one condition that the water source which provides water to several villages of the area should not be destroyed. We have also assured that all possible steps would be taken to ensure that there is no damage to the water source,” Hek said.

He also informed that he has issued directive to start the construction work. “I am expecting that the project would take off within next few weeks,” Hek said adding that he would like to complete the project at the earliest.

He informed that the Government’s plans to shift the Reid Chest Hospital from Jhalupara to Umsawli to pave way for the Shillong Medical College.

Earlier, the Dorbar Shnong had opposed the move to shift the TB Hospital.
