SHILLONG: The State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) is organising the Art Integrated Learning (AIL) programme in collaboration with the British Council India and NCERT. The programme aims at developing aesthetic sensibility and values as part of the NCF (National Curriculum Framework) 2005 and Right to Education Act, 2009 for integrating art in the curriculum for nurturing and moulding children.
An innovative aspect of this collaborative project is the Art Integrated Singing Project – World Music Voice, which aims to promote singing as an additional tool to enable teachers to promote and aid a pupil’s learning.
As part of the World Voice Project (WVP), the British Council chose India and Senegal for the pilot programme.
In India, besides Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya has also been selected as a participating state for supporting wider learning through music, in view of the State’s rich musical tradition.
The programme will culminate on November 26 at Raj Bhavan wherein noted playback singer Mohit Chauhan in his capacity as the World Music Voice Champion Icon will present songs with school children.
Benedict Hynniewta, visiting fellow from the Center of Creative Arts, NEHU and well known flute player from the State will provide local flavour.
