Prez to address special session of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly

Itanagar: President Pranab Mukherjee will address a special session of Arunachal Pradesh assembly on November 28 during a two-day visit to the state, official sources said on Friday. On November 29, he will attend the 12th convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University at Rono Hills, Doimukh, the sources said. “The President addressing the state assembly will be a historic event”, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki officials of the assembly secretariat. SUMA alleges gross irregularity in MIP implementation

Itanagar: Alleging gross irregularity in the implementation of Micro Irrigation Project (MIP) in Upper Subansiri district, the Students’ Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) has demanded the RWD Minister to set up a committee to inquire into the matter. Armed with documents obtained through RTI, the union in a statement on Friday said that, MIP projects worth Rs 7.73 crore were sanctioned during 2009 to 2013 in the district. “Though work completion reports have been submitted by concerned officers from time to time, in reality, no work has been done,” it alleged. The union further informed that the documents gathered through RTI along with the names of engineers under whose tenure the corruption occurred have already been submitted to the concerned minister, secretary and chief engineers of water resources development department. In this conection, it demanded action against the corrupt officers within 15 days. (PTI)

Nagaland Cong. laments NPF for defending Imchen

Kohima: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has termed as ‘uncalled for’ the statements of various NPF party functionaries for defending charge-sheeted medical minister Imkong L.Imchen and also ‘unfortunate’ that legislators of Mokokchung district ‘joined the chorus in support of Imkong L.Imchen’. In a statement issued by the NPCC, Media Cell asserted it ‘has no issue’ with Imchen continuing as MLA ‘until the final conviction’ but said its demand was to ensure he did not influence the outcome of the trial hearing process. Celebrating the 50th statehood anniversary ‘with tainted ministers at the helm, will be an indelible blot in the history of the state’ said NPCC and warned that unless the NPF-led DAN government removed Imchen within the time frame, it would launch a series of agitations till he was removed, it said. Kohima Municipality to distribute pick up trucks for waste management

Kohima: The Kohima town would be the first city in the country to be fully decentralised on waste management by the residents as the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) would distribute pick-up trucks to the nine remaining wards in Kohima. A thorough briefing on better management of the decentralised vehicles and its operations was held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of KMC where 19 wards panchayats, youth and women organizations attended the meeting. The first distribution of the decentralised vehicles took place in the year 2011, when 10 wards received the vehicle. A Ward Sanitation Committee (WSC) has been formed in all the 19 wards and vehicles have been given to all the wards. KMC CEO Elizabeth Nqully during the meeting urged the members to check on open toilets constructed nearby towns and schools. She also advised the ward leaders to strictly disallow construction of open toilets. (UNI)
