SHILLONG: A team comprising Lt Col Sandeep Sharma and Major RD Dabla of Assam Rifles won the inaugural Governor’s Golf Cup tournament, which ended on Sunday at the newly-developed 18-hole Laitkor Golf Course.
The tournament, which began on November 23, saw a nail-biting finish with a total of 120 golfers from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Assam Rifles, CRPF, ITBP, BSF and local golfers from Shillong and Tura participate.
The tournament was contested under two handicap categories – 0-12 (gold) and 13-18 (silver).
Brig CMF Prabhu won the best gross category in the silver division, while Esha Sharma was adjudged to be the best woman golfer and Lt Col Sharma was named best golfer.
Air Marshal RK Sharma won the award for the longest drive in the category of 50 years and above with a driving distance of 362 yards.
Col N Selvakumar of the BSF won the longest drive in the under-50 category for his drive of 455 yards.
Other winners in the minor events were Dy Comdt RS Yadav of Assam Rifles and Lt Col S Mondal of MH Shillong.
