SHILLONG: The Civil Society Women Organization (CSWO) and Khasi Women Welfare and Development Association (KWWADA) have denied their involvement in creating chaos during the pro-ILP rally on September 25 and have accused the police of lying over reports of stone pelting on the security personnel.

“The reports which stated that the members of KWWADA and the CSWO pelted stones on the police is wrong,” CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement issued here on Monday, while reiterating that on the said date the two women’s organizations had stopped the demonstration at exactly 3 pm and ‘never’ took out a procession and ‘never’ pelted stones.

“The whole drama of stone pelting is a ploy by police to trap the NGO leaders but it has boomeranged on the police, since the stone pelting report is a lie,” Kharshiing said.

“Had there been any incident of stone pelting I would have been informed by the Crime Inspector,” Kharshiing said, while claiming that at the time when the incident was reported she was having coffee with the Inspector of Crime at Motphran.

“This was planned by the police because they knew that most of the women had to go through Motphran to get buses for going home,” the CSWO leader said, adding, “With such a big crowd at the busy market place, if there had been stone pelting many people would be injured and not only the police.”

Kharshiing also claimed that she had checked the records at Civil Hospital which point out that only first aid was provided to the police personnel who were ‘supposedly grievously injured’.

“We again stress that there was no procession taken out and that the two organizations never pelted stones,” Kharshiing concluded.
