SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to put the Kynshi Hydro Electric Power project under the ‘fast track mode’ for its early completion.

Speaking to media persons after meeting a delegation of the Synjuk Ki Trai Khyndew Sangriang Mawpon and Warsan Lyngdoh Area, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said land acquisition for the project required as per survey estimates based on the pre-feasibility study and DPR made by the developer will be expeditiously completed.

According to Dr Sangma, the project site was identified and subsequently intimated to the Central Electricity Authority for their views after which the proposal was submitted to the Government.

He stated that the State Government is committed to ensure that all the power projects for which agreement has been signed are commissioned at the earliest for the benefit of the State. It may be mentioned that the Memorandum of Agreement for the Kynshi project was signed by State Government and a private power developer – Athena Power Private Limited – in 2007.

The power project is expected to boost the power capacity of Meghalaya besides creating job opportunities for the people of the State.

Reminding that power projects are one of the top priorities of his government, Dr Sangma said, “The State Government would ensure all those projects for which agreement has been signed (including Kynshi Stage – I & II) with private power developers are developed and commissioned at the earliest to boost the State’s power generation besides creating job opportunities for the local populace.”

Meanwhile, the land owners have requested the State Government to direct all Disaster and Revenue Department to refrain from adopting any delay tactics and to complete all the formalities required to enable the owners to hand over the land required for the project at the earliest to facilitate early implementation of the project.
