SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has castigated the Opposition for politicizing ILP issue.

“Instead of politicizing the issue, Opposition should play a proactive role by coming up with a mechanism to address the issue of influx,” Dr Sangma said here on Thursday.

Taking a dig at Opposition leaders namely Paul Lyngdoh, Ardent Basaiawmoit, Dr Sangma said Opposition is misinforming people by saying that ILP is the only solution.

“Lyngdoh met me on several occasions in the past and never raised the issue of influx with such seriousness,” he said adding the former KSU leader only spoke about backwardness and unemployment.

Castigating Basaiawmoit for his double standard on the issue of influx, the Chief Minister said the HSPDP leader gave two divergent views on the issue during the Budget Session and the last session of the State Assembly. “It can be found in the Assembly proceedings,” he added.
