MBA student arrested on charges of murder
Muzaffarnagar: An MBA student has been arrested in connection with the killing of a 28-year-old man last month, police said on Friday. Gautam Sharma has been arrested on charges of murdering Abid, SSP H N Singh said, adding that a pistol and a scooter have been recovered from him. One more accused, Ankit Baliyan, is absconding, he said. A search is on to nab him. Abid was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne miscreants October 9 on Pachenda road here when the victim was returning from his hair-dressing shop. (PTI)
Woman killed by elephant
Coimbatore: A 45-year-old woman was killed by an elephant in nearby Mettupalayam in the district on Friday, police said. Rani, a daily wage employee in the Forest College, was engaged in cleaning gardens this morning when an elephant which appeared suddenly lifted and flung her down, police said. Seriously bleeding Rani was admitted to the Government hospital here, where she succumbed to injuries, they said. (PTI)
Property dealer shot dead
Meerut: A local property dealer was shot dead by a group of miscreants who allegedly raped his cousin here, police said on Friday. 24-year-old Bilal was shot dead by ten members of a group last evening in Baniyalwala fields on Katta road here, they said. A case has been registered against the accused identified as Pappu, Mehraj, Aazad, Nadim, Wasim and Shafakat and others, based on the testimony given by Bilal’s father. According to the police, all the accused were also involved in an attempt to rape Bilal’s cousin, for which he had registered a criminal case against them in the matter. No arrests have been made in this connection so far, officials said. (PTI)
Nirupam Sen admitted to hospital following cerebral attack
Kolkata: The CPI(M) Politburo member Nirupam Sen was today admitted to a city hospital here following a cerebral attack, party sources said. The former West Bengal Industry minister, Sen fell sick at his residence in Salt Lake here and was immediately rushed to the hospital. The 67-year-old Marxist leader, who had won the Burdwan South Assembly seat in 2006 and 2001 state Assembly elections, lost to his Trinamool Congress rival in 2011. (PTI)
