BSF detects 99 illegal immigrants

SHILLONG: While influx is the burning issue in the State at the moment, the Meghalaya Frontier of BSF this year has apprehended as many as ninety nine illegal immigrants from the borders.

The BSF also apprehended nine militants while one militant surrendered before the border guarding force of the country and nine linkmen were also apprehended by BSF.

The BSF in addition, apprehended fifty six smugglers, forty of which were from Bangladesh while the rest were from India.

Apart from these, BSF also seized huge amount of arms and ammunitions from the long international border that Meghalaya shares with Bangladesh.

BSF in its operations also seized as many as 253 explosives including gelatin sticks, IED, Detonators and others.

Meghalaya Frontier of Border Security Force looks after Border Management of 443 kilometers of International Border with the Bangladesh and altogether nine BSF Battalions are deployed.

One BSF Battalion n has recently been deployed in Garo Hills for law and order duties.

It may be mentioned that the BSF Meghalaya Frontier would celebrate 49th raising day of BSF on Sunday

In a statement issued here on Saturday, BSF said that since the time of taking over, the BSF has initiated various programmes in the border areas to develop strong bonding between the BSF and the bordering people.

BSF has also undertaken several Civic Action programmes in Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills besides organizing Vocational training programme that aims at providing employment-linked vocational training to the womenfolk of the civil population and BSF personnel so that at the end of training they are able to get employment.
