Bangalore: Sunil Chhetri struck twice to help Bengaluru FC beat Shillong Lajong FC 2-1 in an I-League match here on Sunday.
Thus Bengaluru kept their unbeaten record at home intact while ending Shillong Lajong’s six-match unbeaten run. BFC have taken the lead in the standings with 21 points from 11 matches, while the North Eastern side remain on 14 points and stay in sixth.
Man-of-the-Match Chhetri opened the scoring in the seventh minute. He managed to put the ball past the Lajong keeper Vinay Singh after a perfect one-two with Robin Singh.
The second goal came via a penalty in the 34th minute after Robin Gurung fouled Chhetri in the box.
The visitors pulled one back in the 81st minute with a brilliant goal from Boithang Haokip. Haokip’s curling left footer from a free kick outside the box beat Bengaluru keeper Pawan Kumar. The home side managed to cling on to the one goal lead to pocket full points.
In the other matches, Pune FC were held by United SC to a 1-1 draw while Sporting Clube de Goa surprised Salgaocar 1-0.
On Monday Mumbai FC will host East Bengal. (PTI)
