New Delhi: In a bizarre demand, Mohun Bagan has asked AIFF to review a two-crore rupees fine imposed on them after a ruling by retired Supreme Court Judge Justice AK Ganguly, who is now embroiled in a law intern molestation case.
Bagan had walked out of an I-League match against East Bengal in December last year and in his capacity as AIFF-appointed one-man commission, Justice Ganguly had recommended a two-year suspension on Mohun Bagan.
On appeal by club, the AIFF Executive Committee removed the suspension but slapped a Rs 2 crore fine on the club.
Mohun Bagan Managing Director Anjan Mitra has now sent a letter to AIFF President Praful Patel, asking him to review the judgement passed by Justice Ganguly on the ground of his “questionable integrity” as he has been accused by a young woman law intern of sexually harassing her.
Mitra also asked the AIFF to refund the Rs 2 crore the club had paid as fine.
“We draw your kind attention to the news reports … regarding Ex-Supreme Court Judge Mr A K Ganguly who has been accused of molesting an intern. Please note that this is the same person who recommended a harsh decision against our club in the last season for a field incident during the I-League and he was also instrumental in prescribing a heavy fine on our club,” Mitra said in the letter.
“Having had to pay Rs 2 crores last season to AIFF, our financial balance was affected to the extent that we have not been able to pay salaries of our players for last season.
“Since the person concerned Ex Supreme Court Judge Mr A K Ganguly is of questionable integrity, we request you to please review the judgement passed by him against us.
“Also I request you to please refund us the Rs 2 crores so that we may be able to pay of all our financial liabilities for last season, including salaries of players.” (PTI)
