IIT student dies of heart attack
Kanpur (UP): A 23-year-old MTech student of IIT Kanpur has allegedly died of heart attack, police said here on Sunday. Mohit, who was from Tarapur in Maharastra, got the admission this year itself. Last evening, after playing Cricket for about 2-hours, he went to his room for rest but after some time when his friends came to his room they found him lying unconscious on the floor, IIT Deen Student Welfare Prof A K Gosh told reporters here. Mohit was rushed to a health centre in the campus where he breathed his last, Ghosh said. His body was sent for the post mortem. Exact reason of his death would be known only after the post mortem, Ghosh added. (PTI)
Indian-origin couple found dead at their home in UK
LONDON: An Indian-origin married couple have been found dead at their home in west London, police said. Poonam, 35, was found dead on Friday at the home in Priory Way, Western Road, Southall, the Metropolitan Police said, adding she had been killed by “compression of the neck”. Her 36-year-old husband, Sanjeev Kumar, was found hanged nearby. His death is not being treated as suspicious and police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths, the BBC reported. A spokesman said officers were called to the address on Friday afternoon after residents became concerned for the couple’s welfare. The couple’s next of kin have been informed. (PTI)
Woman killed, man injured by tusker
Dhenkanal (Odisha): A 52-year-old woman was killed and a man critically injured when an elephant attacked them separately in Joranda area of Dhenkanal district on Saturday, forest officials said. Bina Jena, her college principal husband and sister-in- law were taking a morning walk when the tusker attacked Bina. She was taken to the district headquarter hospital where she was declared dead, hospital sources said. Her husband and sister-in-law had a narrow escape. About an hour later, another person named Rabi Nahak was injured by the same pachyderm when he was going to work in a paddy field, the officials said. Nahak was brought to Dhenkanal hospital where he is undergoing treatment, they said. (PTI)
Techie ends life by jumping from building
Hyderabad: A software employee from Karnataka, who was working with an IT major here, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third-floor of a building in the city’s Singapore Township. Deepak (33), who hails from Hubli, initially attempted suicide by slashing his wrist and later went to the third-floor of the building and jumped to death, police said today. “He (Deepak) joined a software organisation here on November 18 after transfer from Bangalore and rented a flat in the Singapore Township in Annojiguda area on November 24. He was staying alone,” Ghatkesar Police Inspector V V Chalapathi told PTI. No suicide note was found, he said. Ghatkesar police booked a case of suicide and were further investigating. (PTI)
