Candle light vigil for victim of Bishnupur arson attack

SHILLONG: “I need peace and God will do justice with us,” said Jogeshwar Das, the elder bother of Bisheshwar Das who succumbed to his injuries at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, an emotional Jogeshwar Das said that the incident should not have happened and his brother never did any wrong to any one and he had nothing to with any demand.

“Many people used to eat for credit but my brother never even complained about it,” he said.

Bisheshwar Das, the owner of a tea stall was mercilessly burnt alive inside his shop by miscreants last week and he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

He even said that the family will forgive the miscreants who indulged in the heinous crime while praying that no similar incident happens with any one.

Subot Das, the nephew of Bisheshwar Das questioned as to why the miscreants had to do such a thing and what have they gained after committing the crime even as he expressed happiness that huge number of people came out to participate in the candle night vigil to pay their tribute to his uncle. Around two thousand people lit candles to express their solidarity with the bereaved families of Das who succumbed to his burn injuries after battling for nineteen days in a hospital at Guwahati. People from all walks of life converged in front of his tea-shop in Bishnupur.

People from all walks of life and from all community participated in the candle night vigil and lighted up candles in the memory of Das at Bishnupur here on Thursday evening.

The family members of Das were also seen crying in the vigil and Home Minister Roshan Warjri and local legislator Sanbor Shullai apart from other organisations were also present on the ceremony.

Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri and leaders from the different dorbar shnongs besides Shullai and concerned citizens attended the candle night vigil. Warjri expressed her condolence to the bereaved families of Das and also reiterated that the government is taking all necessary measures to bring to book the perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
