Baghmara to host Winter festival

SHILLONG: Not to be outdone and left behind by its other neighboring districts, the picturesque district headquarter of South Garo Hills District, Baghmara, will hold its own Winter festival ‘tysam’ which means ‘by the riverside’ at golden beaches of mighty river Simsang which meanders through the Baghmara town before finally flowing down to neighboring Bangladesh.
The festival which is an annual feature by now will take place from December 11-13 where the Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma is likely to grace the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurate the event.
The three days cultural bonanza will be jointly organized by the District Administration of South Garo Hills district with Art and Cultural and Tourism department along with Tura based event management firm ‘William Entertainment ‘ as event partner.
Among other things, this years’ ‘tysam’ festival at Baghmara will get to see talented singing sensation from Tripura and winner of chapter 3 of Indian Idol TV Reality show, Sourabhi and Mr. World, Arambam Boby Singh from Manipur.
Other attractions of the of the festival are air rifle, pistol and archery competition, industrial exhibition to be organized by the District Commerce & Industry department, beach, and indigenous sports and games, water sports in the forms of boat racing, swimming and diving competitions, ethnic wear, skit and dancing competitions.
The three days cultural extravaganza will culminate in grand fireworks display and Rock show by the local youth talents in the evening of the final day.
