11,125 patients avail MHIS benefit

SHILLONG: Altogether 11,125 patients acroos the state have been benefited the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), an initiative of the State Government to help those who cannot afford expensive treatment, since its inception six months back.
In addition, a whopping amount of four crore, thirty five lakh, six thousand five hundred and sixty seven has been claimed as the insurance money by patients under the scheme.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Larry Rymbai, the State Manager of MHIS, said that the MHIS authority is preparing data in this regard which will include all segments of population including APL, BPL families and even workers.
Out of the 11,125 patients treated under the MHIS, 3505 patients were treated at Nazareth Hospital while 1050 patients were treated at the Dr. HG Roberts Hospital.
“People can now avail free treatment for 1282 medical problems,” Rymbai said adding that most of the diseases which are prevalent in Meghalaya have been covered under the scheme.
So far 153 hospitals, CHCs and PHCs in the state are covered under the MHIS while twelve hospitals outside the state are also under aegis of MHIS where patients can get free treatment upto Rs 1.60 lakh.
However, no claims have been made from East Garo Hills district and East Jaintia Hills districts.
