NEC-SCA Platinum Jubilee Cup
SHILLONG: In what would go down as a memorable victory for a local side, New Friends Union (NFU) defeated Guwahati CC by seven wickets to lift the NEC-SCA Platinum Jubilee Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament at the Cricket Ground, Polo here on Saturday.
It was the NFU bowlers who ruled the roost after Guwahati CC won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors were restricted to a humble 94/9 in 20 overs. Sohail Rahman and Mayank Tyagi scalped two wickets each for NFU. Sourav Saha (20) was the top scorer for Guwahati CC.
In reply, NFU eased to the target in 18.2 overs with seven wickets in hand. Gautam Raghuwanshi and Purojit Mondal scored 24 runs each while Parviz Aziz took two wickets for Guwahati CC.
While Mayank Tyagi bagged the man-of-the-match award, Raghuwanshi was adjudged the man-of-the-series.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations the Shillong Cricket Association felicitated former cricketers from the city– Parimal Ch. Bhattacharjee, Peter Jarman Lamare and Mark Ingty. (L) Ramananda Chakraborty was also felicitated posthumously. Meghalaya Cricket Association president Conrad Sangma gave away the prizes.
