TURA: The stage is set for the much awaited – SBI Christmas Carol Singing Festival, which is being held for the first time in Meghalaya. The carol competition will be held on December 12 at
Chandmari playground from 3 pm onwards.
At least 20 choir groups from different localities of Tura town are participating in the competition, which is being branded by the organisers as first of its kind in Northeast. The carol signing festival with the theme red and green is adding more colour and spirit to begin the mood of Christmas.
The festival is open to all ages; this year’s festival requires each group to perform their best choir number either in English or Garo language.
The contest does not put any restriction so choir group gets an opportunity to perform carols based on existing poems and original texts.
Earlier on October 2, SBI organized a ‘Run for Peace’, which saw a huge participation. The SBI is making an effort in Garo Hills to reach out to the people to dispel the message of peace in a volatile situation, where bandh and protest have taken centre stage.
